Thorn Medicine:
A journey with Hawthorn and SoulCollage® in times of transition
FOUR CLASS SERIES
June to September 2026
Nature immersion meets creative studio
A supportive circle for reflection and grief tending through nature connection and creative practice.
In this program, we turn to Hawthorn and SoulCollage® as guides. Hawthorn trees share their heart medicine in the living landscape, and the art practice of SoulCollage® offers a way to give form to what lives within us. Together, they provide a nourishing space for reflection, expression, and meaning-making in times of change and grief. Here, we honor and explore what is emerging in our lives. No art experience necessary.

“Grief and love are sisters, woven together from the beginning.”
FRANCIS WELLER
We are living, parenting, and caregiving through loneliness, ecological loss, and war— unpredictable times that stir fear and uncertainty. In these times of transition, we need practices that help steady ourselves on shifting ground. We need our most ancient medicines: gathering, myth, creative expression, time outside in the rhythms of nature, and a devoted circle of companions to witness and support us along the way. Within this sturdy container, we find the softness needed to hold our tears, anger, and precious stories. We create a place to catch our breath and drink from an oasis of mutual nourishment.
class structure
Together, we spend time outdoors where Hawthorn grows— in the forest, near the bog, and at the mouth of a spring-fed well—attuning to their presence and teachings, and listening to the stories carried through folklore and mythology. We then move into SoulCollage® practice to reflect, process, and express our experiences through image-making, gradually building a personal medicine deck.
Hawthorn: medicine for weary hearts
Since ancient times, people have turned to the Hawthorn tree as a medicine for heartache and to support stress and overwhelm.
A boundary-walker, Hawthorn often grows at the edges of forests or as living hedges. Revered as sacred tree, their stories - of protection, fertility and as a gate to the spirit world - are woven throughout Celtic folktales and the mythology of their many native lands. Hawthorn medicine holds both tenderness and fierceness, teaching us how to protect our hearts without sealing ourselves off.
SoulCollage®: creating a personal medicine deck
In this expressive arts practice, participants are guided in making intuitive collage cards—like tarot or oracle cards. Your cards may represent your inner parts, community members, important archetypes or symbols, plants, pets etc., which can be used in readings and consulted for personal questions. Each session includes time to create cards, which together form a deeply personal deck that will stay with you long after this group ends. No art experience is necessary.

We meet one Saturday a month from 10AM-1PM for four months.

We’ll spend a blend of time indoors and outdoors in a yurt, indoor studio and forest. While the weather is generally mild this time of year, please be prepared to spend time outside in all kinds of weather.
The first half of the day includes opening circle, time in the landscape, experiential practices, and small group sharing.
The second half is devoted to creative practice. SoulCollage® studio time is a time for rest, reflection, and integration.
We end with a closing circle and time for group reflections and sharing.
WHILE WE WILL EXPLORE THE MEDICINAL AND FOLK TRADITIONS OF HAWTHORN, THIS IS NOT AN HERBALISM COURSE
-
The program will be located in a yurt with access to an outhouse nearby as well as indoor bathroom as short walk away. Studio time will take place indoors with access to an indoor bathroom. There is a short 5 min walk on mostly gravel road between the two spaces. If you have any accessibility concerns, please reach out to me to see if this is a good fit!
We will be spending time outdoors - rain or shine- please come prepared so you can be comfortable.
-
I will provide a starter kit (glue stick, card backing and plastic protective sleeves) for SoulCollage® but participants are expected to provide any additional materials desired beyond that.
